I just had the same experience with a Word file so it’s not limited to archives. The client then mailed me the file, via Upwork’s messaging system, with no issues. I uploaded it to Virus total to be on the safe side, the file was okay. Am I being unreasonable in jumping to this conclusion? And more importantly, does anybody know a workaround? It will be a huge pain to try and round up all the files that I currently have in Messenger.

This format of compressing files into an archive is also a way to reduce file sizes. RAR files work similarly to ZIP files if you’ve ever used them. Again, do not take my criticism of a user interface as as blanket statement over a certain piece of software’s technical acumen. Keep in mind I’m just going after the “why 500 WinRAR million users” angle. I can also say that if a concerted effort was taken to polish 7zip’ interface, it’d quickly take over everywhere. Give the thumbdowns if you want, but open source is a meaningless bullet point to the end user. Unless you’re actively helping with development, you shouldn’t care if it’s open source or not.

Or, if the contents of files are not confidential, a free virus scanner website can be used. In this case, file should be stored with a random name and without any extension on the server first, and after the virus checking , it can be renamed to its specific name and extension.
